These come from trees - Stimulate paper reduction
Recently came across a unique initiative that causes people to reduce their paper consumption based on a simple visual stimulus.
Our own initiative at paper reduction have yielded some result in the past. We need to ensure that we can keep up the momentum.
Let's see if we can come up with breakthrough ideas like this.

B'lore techies launch fight against e-waste
From Mumbai Mirror >
Bangalore: With more and more IT companies setting up shop in Bangalore, e-waste generated is a major concern. Hoping to increase awareness about e-waste disposal and its impact on society, a recent initiative by a group of techies seems to have evoked a response from people. Two teams of software engineers from Oracle India recently flagged off a campaign to mobilise people to safeguard the city from the threat of e-waste.
With more than 40 software professionals in each team, the group intends to impart knowledge about the ill-effects of e-waste and scientific methods of disposing it.
Hardik Shah, a software engineer and the group leader said, "We are importing electronic products from all over the world but do not have a clear policy for disposal. We use computers, batteries and other e-stuff imported from Japan, Korea and China. We found that proper segregation and clear disposal policy could be the right thing."
Wilma Rodrigues, an e-waste awareness activist said, "In Bangalore, with more than 1,200 software and BPO companies, we get about 8,000 tonnes of e-waste per annum. With the recycling technology we have, it is impossible to recycle the entire heap of e-waste and the problem will only increase. The best way is to educate people about methods to dispose e-waste, like segregation."
Vinuta Narayan, a software engineer said, "Just about everyone uses CDs and other electronic equipment today but none of us know any disposing methods. Besides, e-waste from software firms and residences, other toxic waste such as plastic and bio-medical waste are also posing problems. A company with 1,000 staff produces around 5,000 plastic or paper cups and around 500 kg of tissue papers a day in the city.
The techies' groups in association with e-waste recycling units have set up collecting points at malls and other commercial establishments in the city to collect e-waste and plastic. The techies also enact a street play, detailing the impact of e-waste on human society, at select spots around the city.
As an alternative to plastic bags, the group is advocating the use of jute bags and gunny bags for grocery shopping and other commercial activities.
"People are hesitant to use gunny or cloth bags for many reasons. But they should think about the future of the city and use them" added Hardik Shah.

Greenpeace - Ban the Bulb
If there is any organization that is about putting actions to words, it is Greenpeace1. This is the scene outside Gateway of India, where, Greenpeace has been campaigning to Ban the Bulb2 (1st Sept 2007).
Greenpeace claims that reducing our dependence on non-CFL bulbs can reduce India's carbon emission by 55 million tonnes annually and 12ooo mv of electricity.

Bus Ticket count for July 2007
It's official - we have collected 5330 tickets so far.
In the interest of being a little more systematic about collecting and reporting these figures, we will be updating this figure once a month on the blog. We're also creating a separate category called "bus tickets" that will help you to identify posts related to this initiative.

Eco Responsive on a roll
Clients adopt Eco Responsive too ...
Today was a momentous day for the Eco Responsive Initiative as well as CBO - Cyberbackoffice and Sykes & Ray Equities.
One of the tasks taken up by the CBO team was to ensure that their clients are also a part of the Eco Responsive initiative. As discussed in earlier meetings, possible resistance for setting up bus tickets collection boxes seemed to be the least. To our surprise, the client (Sykes & Ray Equities) not only welcomed the move, but also ensured that their Director, Mr. Yogesh Gupta was present to launch the initiative.
Above is an image of Henry Peter of CBO, handing over the ticket collection box to Mr. Yogesh Gupta. Mr. Gupta was also gracious enough to put in the first bus ticket in to the collection box.
The tickets will be collected every Friday. The client has also offered to have these delivered to the JV office.
Let's hope more of our clients will be willing to adopt Eco Responsive.Posted by Devatanu Banerjee at 10:41 AM 1 comments

Eco Responsive Launch - 07/07/2007
Days after a new seed is sown, it has started sprouting.
Event - Eco Responsive Launch
Venue - Aliagroup Corp. Office - Lower Parel
Date - 7th July, 2007
Keeping with the spirit of the Eco Responsive initiative i.e. action and measurable milestones, the first public step taken was the formal launch of the program.
This was also momentous occasion for the company as all the divisions were present under one roof for the first time. About 180 employees of Aliagroup took the first steps toward being a socially conscious and proactive group.
Eco Responsive is an employee run initiative and is led by the Eco - Responsive Committee. The committee represents representatives from about five different divisions and will be responsible for ensuring that each division takes active part in this initiative and that ideas are shared across all divisions.
The Eco Responsive Committee was responsible for organizing the Eco Quiz and the screening of "An Inconvenient Truth". This was followed by a short presentation by the members of the committee briefing everyone present on how we can collectively take action to reduce our impact on the environment.
The most encouraging outcome of the launch was that ever person attending left with a very humbled, changed yet proactive outlook towards the environment.
An eco-board was signed by all present to pledge their commitment to the cause. A memorable morning was followed by lunch and telecast of LIVE EARTH a worldwide concert for a climate in crisis.
Everyone left the event motivated and with an eco-bag to take the first step towards being Eco Responsive.
Assist us with your suggestions and comments. Let's make Eco Responsive a transformation engine - a transformation for the better.
Cheers,
The Eco Responsive Team

BEST Bus Ticket Recycling
Collect BEST bus tickets and ensure a child's education.
We've managed to put up collection boxes for BEST bus tickets at the Jehangir Villa. It's really simple.
- Get a box,
- Make a slit for collecting tickets
- Smile and tell everyone you're ready to change the world
For every thousand tickets that we collect, the NGO we are in touch with, sponsors the education of a child.
Achievement - Within a week of deploying the collection box, we've managed to collect 250 tickets.
Hope this is replicated at all offices.
Cheers,
The Eco Responsive Team
